last week we had to do an informative speech. i chose to do mine over david lachapelle. i admire him greatly as a photographer and artist in general. he’s not afraid to be himself and isn’t afraid of the backlash he might receive from people for his images. we had to have a visual aid and of course i chose some of his photographs to show. i tried my hardest to pick pictures that were more classroom appropriate. but i also wanted to choose some of my favorites from him. this is one picture i displayed. i thought about it beforehand, that maybe some people would be offended. seeing as how i’m in college though and we’re all adults i thought it wouldn’t matter really. but of course people were still offended. i only showed one picture of his that had nudity in it and that’s because i read that that was one of his favorite images. i just don’t see how people can be offended by art like this. sure, i can see the offensive nature of hardcore pornography and david lachapelle is as far from that as you can get. which just goes to show, we are living in a nation of prudes that are freaked out by the human body.

i just never want to be scared to take the kind of pictures that i want to take.
